Thomastik-Infeld offer this recently developed set of “rope-core” strings, offering many of the features of their “Dominant” stringset, but with a significantly lower price. They feature a perlon core similar to that used in the Dominant set, and the string windings are the same with the exception of the E string, which is unwound, where the Dominant set features an Aluminium winding.
These strings are specifically designed to fulfil the needs of violinists, including those who excel in orchestral or chamber group settings. They settle in quickly and can achieve a stable tuning within a very short time and are exceptionally easy to play. Their durability is unsurpassed compared to other synthetic core strings, and whilst not giving quite the richness of tone achieved with Dominant strings, they are more durable and offer exceptional value!
Perlon is actually comprised of strands of nylon, woven into a rope, and it can offer the warmth and clarity of gut strings. Unlike gut strings, however, Perlon is not affected by changes in humidity, and is also much longer lasting and more reliable.
String cores and windings:
E(1st): Plain steel
A(2nd): Perlon core, Aluminium winding
D(3rd): Perlon core, Aluminium winding
G(4th): Perlon core, Silver winding
