Get down the guitar basics. Remember that you must start out slowly. You may need to learn music you like to listen to, but you should make it a point to build a solid foundation. Also, determine where your fingers should reside on the guitar. Chords and scales are the things you need to practice. Be sure you’re able to do these things easily before you move on to advanced stuff.

Find ways to stay motivated. Set both large and small goals for yourself. You may want to practice with someone else. When you have stuck to your daily practice schedule for one week, give yourself a reward. Remember that nothing worth doing is easy.

Be certain to keep guitar practice fun. Know that you’re trying to learn this because it interests you. Don’t let it become a chore. If you do this, you are likely to become bored, or you may grow to dislike it and give up altogether. Play and practice songs or pieces that you enjoy.

To properly learn the guitar, you will have calluses to build on your fingertips. As calluses build up from practicing and playing, your fingers become protected from the pain your fingers may feel. It takes quite some time to develop callouses, but practicing more will create them faster. There are products out there you can get that will help with building calluses as well.

The first step to learning to play the guitar is understanding the parts of the instrument. This will allow you to start playing better because you have to know your instrument well because when you learn other things they will reference the parts.

You will get sore fingertips before you have callouses. Electric guitars have softer strings and are easier to play if you are worried about this. Steel-string acoustic guitars are the most painful instruments for beginners. It may help to soak the tips of your fingers in rubbing alcohol, but don’t use stronger or harmful substances, such as turpentine.

When you learn to play, don’t skip practicing. Do not forget that anything worthwhile to learn requires hard work. You should practice at least five days every week for a half an hour each day.

Start slow. You may wish to master rapid-paced songs or play really fast, but you need to master this song first. So, go slowly as you master the notes before working on your speed. By focusing juts on speed from the start, you’ll get irritated with making mistakes. By starting at a reduced pace, you will be able to master your song and build speed as necessary.
